Naomi McDougall Jones has signed a publishing deal with Beacon Press for her forthcoming book THE WRONG KIND OF WOMAN: DISMANTLING THE GOD OF HOLLYWOOD.
Award-winning filmmaker and women in film activist, Naomi McDougall Jones, gives a hard-hitting look behind the silver screen at what it is really like to try to make it as a woman in Hollywood today. With brutal honesty, she cracks open the glittery and much-less-glittery journey of her career thus far: first as an actress, then a female filmmaker, and soon a worldwide speaker and activist on women in film, launching The 51 Fund, a venture capital fund dedicated to financing films by women. She deconstructs the ways in which Hollywood is still entrenchedly sexist - systematically blocking the careers of all but a 5% of female filmmakers - but also offers her story as a living example of the ways in which it is newly possible - thanks to Netflix, crumbling distribution models, and innovative online platforms - for female filmmakers to maneuver around the traditional gatekeepers and build careers outside of that system. Finally, she makes the business case for financing and bringing to life films by female filmmakers; how every person who watches movies can help to bring about this change; and why doing so will truly change the world.
The book is expected to be released in early 2019.
